Blog 4-Still raining, so back to France we go....

Non-stop rain overnight again so we have given up and gone back into France, where Lo and behold, it is still raining - beginning to feel like we should be building an ark!
Writing this from a town called Maiche, somewhere in The Doubs, a mountainous region just over the border from Switzerland. Being a bit bored, we started to read the local leaflets about the area and came across this description of the local horse which we found amusing, and so very French.
The Comtois Horse a traditional living element of the landscape as well as a quality product whose reputation far exceeds the region that gave it its name, the Comtois Horse diffuses a natural vigorous and captivating image. Square headed, proud bearing, large keen eyes, darting ears, muscular neck, withers out, strong dense body, "warm" chestnut coloured coat, distinguished gait, he embodies the modern draught horse. Easy to train, robust at work, low cost in maintenance, he is useful for skidding (?) forest, contributes to the upkeep of the rural landscape, animates leisure activities - including sleighs and barouches - and what is more, produces an excellent meat!!!
Moved on again are are now in bright sunshine HURRAY!!!!! Stopping for a couple of nights in Beaune, Burgundy, to enjoy the warmth and of course the delicious red wine made in these 'ere parts.....
Visited the famous Hospice de Beaune, founded in 1443 as a hospital for the poor and still used until 1971.....then went for a wine tasting at some ancient cellars. Now going for a lie down!

Hospice de Beaune

The most expensive wine tasting I have ever been to-Patriache, Pere et Fils Beaune in Burgundy.
