Blog 7 - YEAH we saw the Northern Lights......

Last night we finally saw them! Went out by ourselves and hung around the village, walking down and across the Lake to escape the street lamps and were just about to give up around midnight, frozen and fed up. Then we looked in the sky and saw what looked like white wispy clouds, which when you took a photo with a slow shutter speed, turned out to be the Aurora Borealis...
They were not quite as seen on tv and in books, but to us they were just perfect. We have had such a fabulous trip and this was the final high spot. Doug took loads of photos (which no doubt some of you are going to have to wade through) but they were good enough to get a "tick, seen that" great!
This morning we went out again on the husky sledges, long trip this time, and the temperature plummeted to around -27c, bitterly cold, but still stunningly beautiful. Those dogs are just so keen to run, I had to jump up and down a lot on the brakes to stop them, and even after a week of delicious Finnish food I still wasn't heavy enough at times to control them!!!
We leave in the morning and will be very sad to leave this clean, wilderness with its friendly people and spectacular scenery.
Until the next trip........

Today's new friend, Bilbo, love the beard.....

Endless miles of this.....

Yep, Ted enjoyed it to although preferred the sauna.....
