Blog 3-Royal Weddings, old ships and other stuff......

Arrived at a campsite 10k out of Stockholm on Friday evening. Wine stocks half way through, trip not!!! Panic!! Doug took me on a self-guided tour on Saturday (with the help of the good old Lonely Planet) around the city which is beautiful (for a city) and easy to navigate. Its culture time - so visited the Alfred Nobel Museum (he who invented dynamite and endowed the Nobel prizes, which of course you knew ...) Everywhere we went we were accompanied by marching bands, police and the army as they were all out in force to practice for the royal wedding on the 16th June. It was raining so hope the weather is better in June!!
Sunday saw us back on the metro and into town again - the sun shining brilliantly - for a visit to the Vasa Museum, the Swedish equivalent of the Mary Rose and a truly awesome ship it was. Managed to launch itself and sink on its maiden voyage without even getting out of Stockholm harbour – 333 years later it is in a museum! From there we went to Skansen which was another museum of old farmsteads and houses brought from all over Sweden Finally got to see as real life Elk (I must stop calling them moose apparently) – see photo.
Leaving tomorrow for the hinterland and more lakes, birds, bikes and sore bums!
