Blog 6 - Ambergris Caye and the beach......

Arrived at the Cayes in a very small plane (12 of us) and are now ensconced in a hotel on the beach - and very fabulous it is too! Sorry, I know it is cold in the UK.
The town of San Pedro has one Main Street, lots of restaurants and bars, and a fair few golf carts which are used as transport here. Finally got to dive at a place called Hol Chan Cut, plus Shark Ray Alley and we did snorkelling at Mexico Rocks too. Amazing clear blue water - saw lots of big Southern Stingrays, mooching Nurse Sharks (I managed to touch one as it drifted past, felt like sandpaper....), schools of snapper and schoolmaster, angel fish, parrot fish, blue tang, all manner of coral healthy including elkhorn - the list goes on and on. Great reef, fairly strong currents, excellent viz and they really do care about it as it is now designated a marine conservation park.
Weather hot and humid, but with a cooling breeze, perfect really.
The bird list is now up to 92 new species, so Doug, Bob and Sheila are happy too.
Have to leave tomorrow for the long haul home so this will be the last blog (until the next trip.....) Been an interesting journey through two countries I never thought I would visit and would definitely recommend both.
