Blog 9 - Glaciers and rain :(

11 June 2,850 miles travelled

Now travelling down the Kystriksveien (the coastal route) moving South on reportedly one of the most beautiful roads in the world, which indeed it is but hard to see through the rain! Such a shame.
Stopped to admire the Svartisen glacier with two of it's ice caps & which are the lowest lying glaciers in mainland Europe (just visible in the gloom...)

12 June

Staying (for 2 whole nights-a treat) at the Polar Camp at a place called Hilstad on the edge of the Svartisen National Park.
Had a fab day out on a small boat today with the local postman, delivering mail to extremely isolated houses around the fjords and on the way seeing sea eagles, terns, seals, Grindhval whale and best of all, several glaciers (I love glaciers, my OU course covers them in depth..). Sun shining but wind coming straight from the Arctic and being out on the water it was very very cold but who cares! it wasn't raining!!

Grindhval whale

Not a whale (yet!)

Interesting magma....
