Blog 5 - Land of the midnight sun

How weird is it to wake at 3am and the sky is blue above your head..... Crossed the border beyond Kiruna and are now in Narvik on the Norwegian side of the border. As I write this I am looking at a placid lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains, basking in the sun in my shorts!! Perfect heaven. We drove today through stunning scenery, stopping every 10 minutes to take photos and I am promised it will get better as we head towards the Lofotens and the Vesteralen Islands

Am particularly looking forward to visiting the Lofoton Dried Fish Museum!!!!!

Tuesday 3 June

Finally, after 2000 miles, have arrived on the Vesteralen Islands and now hope to slow down for a bit.

The weather is still glorious, hot and sunny and set for the rest of the week we are told-how lucky are we? We have seen no Brits since leaving Denmark but that may be because today we went to the grog shop and bought 4 bottles of ordinary wine - £40 to you sir!!! we knew it was going to be expensive but really..... We were so good coming across the border, sticking to our allowed limit, and when we got there we just breezed through as there was no one on duty at the crossing. Sod's law....

Doug is still looking for the elusive White Sea eagle...seen plenty of others to keep him happy, he got very excited yesterday when he saw a Blue Throat, no doubt you birders will understand his excitement??

Aforementioned dried cod....
