Blog 5 Geysers & Crossing the high Andes by bus....

Up at 4am (yes really) and a 2 hour drive from San Pedro de Atacama where we are staying to see the Tatio geysers at sunrise. -8 when we arrived but it quickly warmed up and it was a bit weird standing in a volcanic crater surrounded by gushing bubbling geysers.

Friday 18 April Good Friday Happy Easter
Now writing this having boarded the bus and travelling across a vast endless plateau of sand and desert surrounded by a ring of mountains. It's 20c outside, long straight boring road but at an altitude of 4300m leaving us all a bit breathless. Just passed some guys cycling - what - mental!!
crossed the border into Argentina quite painlessly, if somewhat slow and now headed to Purmamarca (small town with amazing coloured gorges) and then on to Salta a bigger city where we fly on to the Iguazu falls

Road over the High Andes, you know who doing a selfie....

seemingly endless Road over the High Andes...

one (not very good) photo of one of Purmamarcas gorges

cheese empanadas, my staple diet.......

slabs of beef, Doug's staple diet

Something we both share.......

Note on dogs! They are everywhere, never any trouble and just walk alongside you whenever/wherever you go almost like they are bored and fancy going for a stroll with you as company! The only thing that seems to rile them is passing cyclists or the odd car and for some reason they just go mental and chase them down the street. We never did work out how they chose who to chase..

John, Doug and Dog of the day...

Massive cactus everywhere, here outside our room.....
