Blog 4 - Atacama Desert

Flew into Calama from Santiago and then on to the small town of San Pedro de Atacama  by road which is 2450 metres above sea level and supposedly an oasis in the driest desert in the world!!  Dirt streets and adobe houses with views of the High Andes make it feel like we are a long way from Bickington!!

Arrived mid-afternoon and am writing this from my Adobe room, very nice, with an outdoor (as in open to the sky) shower!  Sadly won't be using it tonight as it's freezing here at night but gets up to +30 during the day, with no shade... That's the desert for you.  Drove out to Death Valley and Moon Valley (pictures explain it all....) and waited for the sunset. As the full moon came up at the same time, it was really quite spectacular.
