Blog 2 - Yes, we found 'em....

Writing this from above 80degree North, on the edge of the pack ice, having travelled the last 2 days steadily north. We have a really good Russian captain, who likes to take the ship through the ice pack which has to be heard to be believed!. Really into the middle of nowhere now, temperatures below freezing and this morning it was snowing. July?
Both feel so privileged to be here, it is pristine, white, clean and silent. Been scouting for bears most of the day, finally found a lone male swimming through the sea and getting up onto the icebergs. Very very excited to see him, he wasn't white at all, more a yellowy dirty colour, but big, very big, swimming fast from berg to berg, looking for his lunch!
Every day we go ashore in the zodiacs landing on bleak spots dotted about the ocean. Before landing we usually have a lecture or two on what we will see and most evening we have a recap over drinks. his is a very fine way to be educated! Seen whales, walrus, whiskered seals and plenty of bird life for Doug.
