Ulaanbataar(again) 17 July

Left Lake and now on short flight back from Muron (armpit of the world...) to UB (in the centre of M) Have said goodbye to our driver, a stoic chap of few (English) words but could drive that Furgon over any terrain (and did!!!) an excellent driver. Seems he works for the BBC quite a bit - they are here at the moment doing Round the World in 80 days or something....

First thing I see on the 30 seater twin prop plane is a photo of the Queen and when the article is translated for me it appears she has had her cutlery stolen! Strange what makes front page news of the Mongolian Times??

UB strange after the silence of the last few weeks. Visited Grandantegchunlen (phew) monastery which is largest and most important in Mong. Also visited the state department store in the vain hope of finding something to buy - I am a frustrated woman - 3 weeks no shops. D very pleased... He has seen 50 species of birds (for the birding fraternity).

Leaving our guide Togi, Linda and Julie our drinking and travelling companions and heading back to Beijing at 3.00am tonight for next leg of trip, so next news from China....

Love Annie xx
