Visiting the Lone Star State-Blog 1

Tuesday 3 November

Arrived here in Dallas after the usual long flight and promptly fell asleep for 14 hours straight! So, Dallas – what can I say after one whole day? This is the State of the big cars, big steaks and even bigger hair!! Alistair is working today so Rach took us into town to the John F Kennedy Sixth Floor Museum and yes, it was quite weird seeing the book depository where Lee Harvey Oswald (supposedly) shot JFK out of the window. Being your typical tourists we, of course, had our photo taken by the large X they have in the middle of the road where he was hit – tacky yes I know.....

Photo 2 X marks the spot...

Photo 3 Yes, home of JR and Swellen

Next stop South Fork Ranch – what else! This is Dallas!! It is now a conference centre (or should that be center...) which was a bit of a let down but.....After that, we had sushi lunch then headed for the Malls (Sheila you would love it here...) and am now back home after visiting the liquor store and the supermarket. So many people hear the English accent and stop and talk to us, very friendly lot the Texans, one lady gave us her entire marriage history, starting with how her husband took her to Aberdeen to marry her in a castle, then bought her everything she wanted from M&S and Laura Ashley!! Weird, but kind of nice...... Al is now BBQing – temp up in the 70s today and the day was lovely sunny and warm....Now having my first alcoholic drink in 5 weeks – guess I will be falling over very soon...................

Doug doing some market research at the supermarket!!
